The Good and The Beautiful homeschooling curriculum review

Hey mama! If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re already homeschooling or considering it, and are looking for the best curriculum to help you in this exciting journey with your kids. You may have heard a thing or two about The Good & The Beautiful’s homeschooling curriculum, and as a family who has used it for the last 3 years, I’ve created a detailed review about our experience, so you can decide if it’s a good fit for you, too.

One of the biggest questions I had before I started homeschooling, aside from the obvious “How do I even start?”, was whether I would need a curriculum. My first months of teaching my oldest daughter definitely felt like I was winging it. There were moments when I felt lost, not sure what to teach her next, and I also felt like I didn’t have a way to track our progress.

I would say that these feelings were the initial reason why I decided to start looking for a homeschooling curriculum, and it’s how I eventually came across The Good and The Beautiful.

Now that I’m on the other side of it, I can tell you that nothing beats having the support of a curriculum you love, and it’s hands down a big part of what has made long-term homeschooling possible for us.

Having a curriculum provides structure, helps you plan, allows you to track progress, and equips you with tools that you wouldn’t have if you were doing everything on your own.

Thanks to our curriculum from The Good and The Beautiful, I’ve also realized that first, I can’t possibly know it all, and second, that I don’t have to. I get to learn alongside my kids, and it becomes a learning experience for all of us.

So in short, yes. Having a curriculum will make your life easier as a homeschooling mom, and picking one that you love will make it a lot more fun.

Keep in mind that you don’t have to pick only one curriculum, and you can always mix and match, alternating depending on your kids’ ages and subjects. One thing we love about TGATB is that we can purchase individual books and add new ones as needed.

Our very first book by TGATB was this Math K course set, which I got for my daughter when she was 5, and we were immediately hooked after that.

The Good and The Beautiful Homeschooling Curriculum
  1. It’s an easy-to-follow curriculum with no preparation required. I can open the book and immediately start our homeschooling session. This is a big one for me because, as a mom of 3, who also runs an online business from home, I want my homeschooling to be fun and efficient (without having to think about it all day).
  1. The books are beautiful! You can tell there’s been lots of love poured into every single page. There are beautiful illustrations throughout the pages, and as a visual person, the design & layout of all their books make homeschooling very enjoyable.
  1. I never thought this would be a big reason, but their site is so easy to navigate that it makes choosing everything that much easier. You can browse books & resources by subject or by grade, and when you find something you like, you’ll find related items on the same page.
  1. Their curriculum includes both core subject books and some fun electives, such as Music Appreciation, Creative Arts & Crafts, Creative Writing, and Drawing.
  1. While it’s not the most inexpensive curriculum, we love that you can order books à la carte as needed. And if you’re trying to reduce your spending, you can download the full Language Arts & Math course sets for levels K-8, as well as Marine Biology Science Printables for levels 3-8, completely for FREE. No, I’m not kidding! You can download the set and print all your lessons at home. Take a look here.
  1. One of the biggest reasons why we continue to use it is that my kids love it! No matter how much you may love a curriculum, if your kids don’t enjoy it, it will be tough to keep using it. My kids have loved TGATB since the very first day.

In the next section, I’ll provide a detailed breakdown of every book & resource I’m currently using from The Good and The Beautiful to homeschool my 7-year-old daughter and my 4-year-old son. I’m going to organize everything by subject and will share who I’m using it with, so it’s easy to follow along.

You’ll notice that there are things specific to each kid, as well as things I use with both.

  1. Language Arts

I’m using the Level 1 Course Set with my 7-year-old, which includes the main Language Arts book, a Booster Reading Cards booklet, and a set of short stories for independent reading. Since our main language at home is Spanish, we’re using this course for both grammar and English as a second language.

Since my daughter already learned how to read in Spanish, following along with this course has been very intuitive.

Most lessons include pronunciation practice, some reading, spelling, writing, and creative activities. She has also been learning much vocabulary.

Some days we like doing 1-2 pages of the Booster Reading Cards before starting our lesson, and other days we’ll do 1 of the short stories at the end.

The very first course set I purchased for my 4-year-old is this Preschool Language Arts Set, and it has helped me greatly with his transition into a more structured homeschooling approach. We don’t go heavy on the lessons yet and would do 2-4 pages at a time, depending on his interest level.

This course set includes the main book, a Practice Sheets Workbook, and an Activity Folder. The last two follow the main book and make the lessons very interactive. Since our main language at home is Spanish, I teach him in Spanish and have been using this set to introduce English words to him.

  1. Math

As I mentioned earlier, Math K was the first course we received from TGATB when we first started. We went through that course, then moved on to Math 1, and we’re currently using Math Level 2.

This is one of my daughter’s favorite classes, and she always gets excited when it’s Math day. One of the things she loves the most is the “toolbox” that comes as part of the set, which includes various fun learning tools, such as coins, bills, a clock, little boats and planes, and other engaging items to aid in the lessons.

This course is very hands-on, while keeping the signature storytelling of TGATB throughout each lesson. It is one of the subjects I enjoy teaching the most, and I’m 100% sure that it’s thanks to the awesome book we have.

  1. Science for Little Hearts and Hands

Ok, I know I said that we absolutely looove TGATB’s Math Course, but the Science for Little Hearts and Hands books are right behind it. There are 5 sets in this Science series, which are designed for levels Pre-K to 2, and yes, we have them all! We started with the Fields & Flowers set, then acquired the Wind & Waves set, and subsequently moved on to the Sparks & Stars set. We have also recently obtained the Bones & Stones set, as well as their newly launched Nests & Burrows set.

While I got these, thinking about my oldest, the lessons are so interesting and filled with stories, that I now use it with both of my kids. I plan the lesson for my 7-year-old, and my 4-year-old kind of tags along.

Each set includes two books, a Parent Guide that organizes all the lessons, and a Story Book. Some of the lessons will consist of a story from the book, and others will follow an audio narration, for which you’ll have links.

Here’s a quick look at what each Science for Little Hearts and Hands Course Set is about:

  • Fields & Flowers: Inside, you’ll learn about flowers, trees, and insects like bees and butterflies. This is the best set for younger learners.
  • Wind & Waves: Explore rain, snow, rainbows, the water cycle, and what meteorologists do. This set is also a good option for kids at the Pre-K level.
  • Bones & Stones: This is the one we’re currently going through, and it delves deep into topics such as dinosaurs, paleontologists, and earth layers & earth formations. Some lessons are suitable for both older and younger kids, while others are a bit more advanced.
  • Nests & Burrows: We immediately fell in love with this set that explores different animals and their habitats. Take a trip around the savannah, the rainforest, ponds, lakes, and even your backyard. Both of my kids love this one.
  • Sparks & Stars: Head into outer space with this cool set that explores our planets, the moon, the sun & other celestial objects, as well as earth forces like gravity & physics. The first part of the book is ideal for all ages. The second part is definitely Level 2.
  1. Handwriting

One of the early books I got for my 4-year-old, before officially starting a curriculum, was the Doodles & Prewriting workbook. We then got Part 2 of the same workbook, and are now using the Handwriting Level K.

The first workbooks feature a variety of shapes and lines for kids to trace. They also include some simple drawings that they can trace over. The K Level workbook, in addition to shapes, lines, and drawings, also features letters, numbers, and coloring-specific areas.

My 7-year-old daughter is currently using the Level 2 Handwriting workbook, which she can use independently while I homeschool my son. The activities in this book include tracing and repeating smaller print letters, as well as free writing and drawing.

  1. Science Activity Books

An entertaining addition we made to our 2025 homeschooling curriculum from The Good & The Beautiful was four books from their Science Activity Book Series. These are shorter workbooks, ideal for levels K-2, and cover various topics, including Mammals, Birds, Geology, Ecosystems, marine biology, and human health.

I love sprinkling these books throughout our homeschooling when I want my kids to work on something with minimal supervision. They’re also great for bringing along on car rides and short trips. For most activities, you’ll need a pencil, eraser, scissors, glue, and coloring pencils/crayons.

There are more than 15 books to choose from, they’re all less than $7, and you’ll find them all in here.

  1. Creative Arts & Drawing

For our Art classes, we got this Creative Arts & Crafts book, and I’ve been using it for our entire family (yes, including baby!). This book is mainly a guide for some pretty neat crafts we can all do together. It includes photos, a list of materials, and instructions on various art activities. It’s thought out for kids in levels K-5, with the little ones needing a little more help from our part.

You can expect to use art supplies like watercolors, markers, papers, beads, and acrylics for some of the activities inside.

  1. Drawing 100 Birds, Trees, and Flowers

A set of books I’ve been loving so much because I’ve been practicing my drawing skills, haha. Each book is filled with instructions on how to draw 100 different birds, trees, or flowers, depending on the book you choose. They’re very easy to follow with only 4 steps to full drawings, and great for kids of all ages. Our favorite is the Birds one!

While I’m calling this a set, you get them individually. Check them out here: Birds book, Trees book, and Flowers book.

  1. Beetles/Butterfly Flip Book

This next one is a book that I specifically got for my 4-year-old. It’s a two-book set, one about beetles and one about butterflies. The cool thing about these books is that the first pages come with mixed-up photos of the insects, which you have to cut. This turns them into cards that you then have to match to the right pair. Most of the fun happens when you first open them and cut them out, but I also love grabbing them for a quick activity with my kids from time to time.

  1. Insect & Spider Mazes, and I Spy Mammals in nature

I purchased both of these activity books for my 4-year-old, and they’ve been a great addition to our core curriculum. They are not sold as a set, but I think that they’re a great combination. The Insect & Spider Mazes book is a small book filled with little habitat mazes that’s printed on shiny paper, so you can use and reuse it with whiteboard markers. The I Spy Mammals & Nature book is a “find the animals” type of book. Each page spread has a different scene with mammals to spot, as well as little learning facts about the animals shown.

I really like that my son can work independently on these books, which helps a lot when I’m doing deeper work with my daughter.

  1. Board Books

We’ve been loving this beautiful board book set because we can all enjoy them together, including baby! Aside from the detailed and colorful illustrations, they are great as read-alouds, which made them an instant hit with my younger kids. The set includes 6 books covering the following themes: Birds, Insects, Mammals, Pond, Ocean, and Forest.

An unexpected perk of getting this set was that my 4-year-old now loves using it as inspiration for his drawings. The photo below shows some of the art he has created with it.

You can take a closer look at all the books right here.

  1. Snatch! A Birds of Prey Game

The last thing on our 2025 homeschooling curriculum from The Good and The Beautiful is not really a book, but instead, an educational and very neat game to learn about Birds of Prey. While this is ideal for older kids who can already read, we’ve been using it as a family, and I’ve been helping my 4-year-old play with us.

It includes 64 cards showcasing 8 different categories of Raptors, where they live, and cool facts about them.

If you’re looking for interactive ways to make your homeschooling a bit less structured, I suggest checking out this game.

If listing this curriculum by age/level makes it easier, I’m also organizing everything for you down here.

I’m sure you can already tell how much we enjoy The Good & The Beautiful and how well it has fit our family. But in case you still need more convincing 😉 These are some additional perks that we’re certainly enjoying by having chosen TGATB as our 2025 homeschooling curriculum:

              homeschool curriculum review

As a recap, here are some of the things we love the most about our homeschooling Curriculum by The Good & The Beautiful!

              • Easy to follow along because lessons are short.
              • Lots of storytelling & scenarios that involve real people.
              • It shares about God and his beautiful creations throughout every book.
              • Inexpensive option compared to similar curricula.
              • Beautifully designed. It’s a joy to work on these books!
              • We can pick and choose; no need to get a whole set of one level.

And some minor things we wished it had:

              • More subjects for younger kids, for example, History, Geography, or deeper lessons on the Human Body.
              • Non-spiral spine, although I think they’re making the switch.
              • A wider variety of interactive toys & games.

To summarize, we are very happy to have chosen The Good & The Beautiful for our 2025 homeschooling curriculum, and look forward to new lessons every single week.
